Before you start: get your table shortcode

You’ll need the shortcode for the table you want to embed. The quickest way to get it:

Go to WP Table Builder in your WordPress dashboard.

Open the table in the editor.

Click the Embed button at the top — this copies the shortcode to your clipboard automatically.

The shortcode will look like
[wptb id="123" not found ]
. Keep it copied — you’ll paste it in the next step.

If you haven’t built a table yet, see How to Create Your First Table in WP Table Builder first.

Method 1: Using the Shortcode widget (recommended)

This is the standard way to add any shortcode-based content in Elementor.

Step 1: Open your page in Elementor

Go to the page or post where you want to add the table and click Edit with Elementor.

Step 2: Add the Shortcode widget

In the Elementor panel on the left, search for “Shortcode” in the widget search box. Drag the Shortcode widget and drop it into the section where you want the table to appear.

Step 3: Paste the shortcode

In the left-hand settings panel, paste your WP Table Builder shortcode into the Enter your shortcode field.

Note: The table may appear in a simplified style inside the Elementor editor — this is normal. Click the drop-down icon beside the ‘Publish’ button and click on View Page to see the fully rendered table exactly as it will look to your visitors.

Step 4: Preview and publish

The Elementor canvas may show a simplified preview of the table. Click Preview Changes or Publish/Update to see the fully rendered table on the frontend.

Why the Elementor preview looks different from the frontend

This is expected behavior and not a bug. Elementor’s canvas uses a simplified rendering environment that may not apply all of your theme’s frontend styles. The actual table will render correctly on the published page.

To see the exact frontend result without publishing, click drop-down icon beside the ‘Publish’ button and click on View Page — this opens a live preview in a new tab with full frontend styles applied.

Troubleshooting

The shortcode is showing as plain text instead of a table. Make sure you pasted the shortcode into the Enter your shortcode field inside the Shortcode widget settings panel — not into a Text or Heading widget. If you typed it manually, double-check the format:
[wptb id="123" not found ]
where
123
matches your actual table ID.

The table isn’t appearing at all on the frontend. Confirm that WP Table Builder is installed and activated. Then check that the table ID in the shortcode matches an existing table in WP Table Builder → All Tables.

The table looks broken or unstyled in Elementor. Check the preview of the page first. If the table looks broken in the preview, your Elementor theme or a custom CSS rule may be overriding WP Table Builder’s table styles. Try adding custom CSS to correct the conflict. See How to Add Custom CSS in WP Table Builder.

The table overflows its container in Elementor. This is usually a responsive issue. Check your table’s responsive settings in WP Table Builder. See How to Make a Table Responsive.

I’m using Elementor Pro — is there a better way to embed tables? No native Elementor Pro widget exists for WP Table Builder, so the Shortcode is the correct method for all versions of Elementor.

Method 1: Using the WP Table Builder block

This is the recommended method. The dedicated WP Table Builder block lets you insert, edit, and create tables without leaving the editor.

Step 1: Insert the WP Table Builder block

Open any post or page in the block editor. You can add the block in two ways:

Option A — Slash command (fastest): Type
/wp table builder
(1) directly in the editor, then click the WP Table Builder block from the dropdown (2).

Option B — Block inserter: Click the Add Block icon (the “+” icon) (1), type “WP Table Builder” in the search box (2), then click the WP Table Builder block (3).

Step 2: Select a table

Once the block is inserted, you’ll see a dropdown listing all the tables you’ve created in WP Table Builder.

Click any table to insert it. The table will appear inline in your editor.

Tip: You can click the minimize icon to collapse the table list into a compact view.

Method 2: Using a Shortcode block

If you prefer using the table shortcode directly, this method works just as well.

Step 1: Copy the table shortcode

Go to WP Table Builder in your dashboard, find the table you want, and copy its shortcode. It will look like
[wptb id="123" not found ]
.

Alternatively, open the table in the WP Table Builder editor and click the Embed button at the top — this copies the shortcode to your clipboard automatically.

Step 3: Paste the shortcode

Paste the copied shortcode into the editor. You’ll see the table immediately.

Editing a table from the block editor

You can open the full WP Table Builder editor without leaving your post.

Step 1: Select the table block

Click on the WP Table Builder block in the editor to select it.

Step 2: Open the table editor

Click the Open in Editor icon in the block toolbar.

The WP Table Builder editor will open as an overlay directly in the block editor. Make your changes, then click Save Table before closing the overlay.

Important: Always save your table inside the WP Table Builder editor before exiting. Changes made in the table editor are separate from the post’s “Save/Update” button.

Creating a new table from the block editor

You can create a new table directly from the WP Table Builder block without going to the WP Table Builder dashboard first.

Step 1: Insert the WP Table Builder block

Add the block using either method described above (slash command or block inserter).

Step 2: Click Create

Instead of selecting an existing table, click the Create button (1).

Step 3: Set rows and columns

Enter the number of columns (2) and rows (3), then click Create (4).

The WP Table Builder editor will open. Build your table using drag-and-drop elements, then save it.
Troubleshooting

The WP Table Builder block doesn’t appear in the block inserter. Make sure the WP Table Builder plugin is installed and activated. If you recently installed it, try refreshing the editor. In rare cases, another plugin may be blocking custom blocks — try deactivating other plugins one by one to identify conflicts.

My table shows as a blank block or an error in the editor. The table may have been deleted from the WP Table Builder dashboard. Open WP Table Builder → All Tables and check if the table still exists. If it was deleted, remove the block and insert a new one.

Changes I made in the table editor aren’t showing on the frontend. Click Save Table inside the WP Table Builder editor overlay before closing it. Then update the post. If you’re using a caching plugin, purge the cache for that page.

Method 1: Install WP Table Builder Free (from WordPress.org)

This is the fastest way to get started. The free version is available directly from the WordPress plugin directory. It’s also required as the base plugin if you plan to use WP Table Builder Pro.

Step 1: Open the plugin installer

In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin.

Step 2: Search for WP Table Builder

Type “WP Table Builder” in the search box in the top right. The plugin will appear in the search results.

Step 3: Install the plugin

Click the Install Now button on the WP Table Builder card. WordPress will download and install the plugin automatically. This usually takes a few seconds.

Step 4: Activate the plugin

After installation completes, the button will change to Activate. Click it.

You’ll now see a new WP Table Builder menu in the left admin sidebar. You’re ready to create your first table.

Method 2: Install WP Table Builder Pro (extension)

WP Table Builder Pro works as an extension on top of the free base plugin. You need both plugins installed and active for Pro features to work.

Before you start: Make sure WP Table Builder (free) is already installed and activated using Method 1 above.

Step 1: Download the Pro plugin zip file

After purchasing, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a download link, your license key, and account details. Click the download link to save the
.zip
file to your computer.

Step 2: Open the plugin uploader

In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins (1) → Add New Plugin (2), then click Upload Plugin (3) at the top.

Step 3: Upload and install

Click Choose File, select the Pro
.zip
file you downloaded, then click Install Now.

Step 4: Activate the Pro extension

Once the installation finishes, click Activate Plugin.

You should now see two plugins in your Plugins list: WP Table Builder (free base) and WP Table Builder Pro (extension). Both must stay active.

Step 5: Activate your license key

After activation, go to WP Table Builder in the sidebar. You’ll see a banner prompting you to complete activation. Click Complete “WP Table Builder Pro” Activation Now.

Paste the license key from your purchase confirmation email (1) and click Activate License (2).

After successful activation, you’ll be redirected to the Account page showing your license details.

For more details on license management, see How to Insert & Activate Your License Key.

Upgrading from Free to Pro

Already using WP Table Builder Free? Upgrading is simple — you don’t need to remove anything:

Keep the free version active. Do not deactivate or delete it. The free plugin is the base that Pro extends.

Purchase a Pro license at wptablebuilder.com/pricing.

Download the Pro zip from your confirmation email.

Install and activate Pro following Method 2 above (Steps 2–5).

Your existing tables, settings, and shortcodes are untouched. Pro elements and features will appear in the editor immediately after activation.

Troubleshooting

The plugin won’t install — I see “Installation failed: Could not create directory.”

Your server’s file permissions may be too restrictive. Contact your hosting provider and ask them to check that the
wp-content/plugins/
directory is writable.

I see “An error occurred while activating Freemius” after activation.

This is a known issue related to the Freemius SDK. See Fix: “An error occurred while activating Freemius” for the solution.

My license key isn’t working.

Make sure you’re pasting the key exactly as it appears in your email — no extra spaces before or after. If it still doesn’t work, check that your license hasn’t exceeded its site limit. See How to Insert & Activate Your License Key for details.

I installed Pro but I don’t see Pro elements.

Check two things: first, confirm that the free base plugin is also installed and active — Pro won’t work without it. Second, verify that you activated the license key (Step 5 in Method 2). If both are active and the license is valid but Pro elements still don’t appear, deactivate both plugins, reactivate the free version first, then reactivate Pro.

The plugin doesn’t appear in search results on WordPress.org.

Search for the exact name: WP Table Builder. If your WordPress installation can’t connect to WordPress.org (common on localhost or restricted servers), download the free version zip from wordpress.org/plugins/wp-table-builder/ and upload it manually using the same process as Method 2.

What you’ll build

In this tutorial, you’ll build a simple product table with five element types: a text heading, a product image, a feature list, a star rating, and a call-to-action button. By the end, you’ll know how to add any element to any cell and how to embed the finished table anywhere on your WordPress site.

Step 1: Open the table builder

Once WP Table Builder is installed and activated, open your WordPress dashboard. You’ll see a new WP Table Builder menu item in the left admin sidebar.

Hover over the WP Table Builder menu, then click Add New in the flyout.

Alternatively, click the WP Table Builder menu item (1) and then Add New (2) from the secondary sidebar.

Step 2: Set rows and columns

On the setup screen, enter the number of rows (1) and columns (2) your table needs, then click Create New (3).

You can add or remove rows and columns later, so don’t worry about getting this exact.

Step 3: Name your table

You’ll now see the WP Table Builder editor. Type a name for your table in the title field at the top (1). A clear name makes tables easier to find later when you have many of them.

Step 4: Understand elements (Free vs Pro)

WP Table Builder has two types of elements:

Basic elements (Free and Pro): Text, Image, List, Star Rating, Button, Custom HTML, Shortcode

Pro elements: Icon, Text Icon, Styled List, Circle Rating, Ribbon, Badge, Progress Bar

Basic elements are available in both the Free and Pro versions. Pro elements require a WP Table Builder Pro license.

To add any element, drag it from the left sidebar and drop it into a table cell.

Step 5: Add text

Text is the most common element. There are two ways to add it:

Drag and drop: Drag the Text element from the sidebar into a cell.

Click to type: Click directly inside any empty cell and start typing.

Once a text element is selected, the left sidebar shows styling options:

Font color — color of the text

Link font color — color of any hyperlinks inside the text

Font size — text size in pixels

Padding — inner spacing

Margin — outer spacing

A floating toolbar also appears above the selected text with bold, italic, strikethrough, link, and alignment controls.

Step 6: Add an image

Drag the Image element into a cell, then click Upload to choose an image from your WordPress media library or upload a new one.

After selecting the image, use the left sidebar to configure it:

General tab — set image alignment (1) and add alt text (2) for SEO and accessibility

Size tab — change image width and height

Link tab — make the image clickable by adding a URL, and optionally set the link to open in a new tab via Link Target → Blank

Tip: Always add alt text to table images. It improves accessibility and helps search engines understand your content.

Step 7: Add a list

Drag the List element into a cell and edit the items inline.

Configure the list from three tabs in the left sidebar:

General tab — change list type (bulleted/numbered), margin, and padding

Font tab — adjust font color and size for list items

Layout tab — control item spacing and list alignment

Step 8: Add a star rating

Drag the Star Rating element into a cell and click on the stars to set the rating.

From the left sidebar you can configure:

Max rating — maximum number of stars (default is 5)

Rating value — the current rating to display

Size — star size

Alignment — left, center, or right

Color — star color

Show rating count — toggle to display the numeric value beside the stars

Step 9: Add a button

Drag the Button element into a cell, then click it to edit the button text and link.

The left sidebar lets you customize size, border radius, background color, hover color, text color, text hover color, font size, button alignment, content alignment, and button ID.

Your finished table should now look something like this:

Step 10: Save your table

Important: You must save your table before you can preview it, embed it, or come back to it later. Click the Save Table button at the top right of the editor.

If you close the editor without saving, your changes will be lost.

Step 11: Embed the table in a post or page

Once saved, click the Embed button in the top toolbar. This copies the table’s shortcode to your clipboard automatically.

Now open any WordPress post or page where you want the table to appear, and paste the shortcode. It will look like
[wptb id=123]
.

Block editor (Gutenberg): Add a Shortcode block and paste the shortcode inside. (Full Gutenberg guide →)

Classic editor: Paste the shortcode directly into the content area.

Elementor: Use the Shortcode widget. (Full Elementor guide →)

Divi: Use the Text module and paste the shortcode. (Full Divi guide →)

Publish or update the post, and your table will appear on the frontend.

Troubleshooting

My table isn’t showing up on the frontend.

Make sure you clicked Save Table before copying the shortcode, and that the shortcode ID matches your saved table. If the shortcode still shows as plain text, see Tables Not Showing in WP Table Builder Dashboard.

Elements won’t drop into cells.

Check that you’re dragging into an empty cell, not onto the cell border. Refreshing the browser usually resolves stuck drag states.

My table looks broken on mobile.

WP Table Builder tables are responsive, but you may need to enable the responsive mode. See How to Make a Table Responsive.

The styling in my table looks different from the editor preview. Your theme may be overriding WP Table Builder’s styles. See How to Disable Theme Styles for Table.

If your tables suddenly disappear from the WP Table Builder dashboard, it may look like all your tables are gone. In most cases, this happens because the WordPress REST API is blocked by a security plugin.

In this guide, we will show you how to quickly identify and fix the issue.

What the Problem Looks Like

When this issue occurs, you may notice the following:

The Table List shows “No results found.”

Your tables are not visible in WP Table Builder → All Tables

You see the message:

“Something went wrong! Please reload the page!”

Even though the tables still exist in your database, they cannot load in the dashboard because the plugin cannot access the REST API.

Why This Happens

WordPress plugins often use the REST API (
wp-json
) to load and manage data in the admin dashboard.

WP Table Builder uses this API to display the list of tables.

However, some security plugins block the REST API for protection. When that happens, WP Table Builder cannot retrieve the table data, and the dashboard appears empty.

For example, one user reported that WP Cerber Security blocked the
wp-json
endpoint, which caused all tables to disappear from the dashboard.

How to Fix the Issue

Follow these steps to resolve the problem.

Step 1: Temporarily Disable Your Security Plugin

Go to:

WordPress Dashboard → Plugins

Temporarily deactivate your security plugin.

Step 2: Reload the WP Table Builder Page

Go to:

WP Table Builder → All Tables

If your tables appear again, the issue is caused by the security plugin blocking the REST API.

Step 3: Allow the REST API

Open your security plugin settings and allow access to the
wp-json
endpoint.

Many security plugins have options such as:

REST API access

API protection

Blocking JSON endpoints

Make sure these settings allow WordPress plugins to access the REST API.

Important Note

Your tables are not deleted when this issue occurs. They are still stored in the database — they simply cannot load in the dashboard until the REST API is accessible again.

Yes. WP Table Builder tables are built using standard HTML table markup, which means search engines can read and crawl them easily.

Unlike some comparison table tools that rely heavily on JavaScript rendering, WP Table Builder outputs real HTML elements such as:

<table>

<tr>

<td>

<th>

This ensures that your table content is visible to search engines on the first crawl, without requiring JavaScript execution.

Why This Matters for SEO

Some table plugins generate tables using JavaScript frameworks. In those cases, search engines may not see the table content during the initial crawl.

Because WP Table Builder outputs HTML directly in the page, search engines like Google can:

Read the table content immediately

Understand comparison data

Index table text and links

Use the content for search results and AI summaries

This makes WP Table Builder a strong choice for:

Affiliate comparison tables

Product comparison tables

Pricing tables

Feature comparison charts

WP Table Builder allows you to easily change the font color and font size of the text inside your tables. You can either apply the styling to the entire table or modify specific text elements individually.

In this guide, we will show you two ways to change font color and size in WP Table Builder.

Method 1: Change Font Color and Size for the Entire Table

This method allows you to change the font color and size for all text inside a specific table.

Note: This is not a global typography setting. The changes will apply only to the table you are editing.

Steps

Open the table in the WP Table Builder editor.

Click the Settings tab at the top of the left panel.

Expand the Font Style section.

Adjust the following options:

Font Color – Change the text color.

Link Color – Change the color of links inside the table.

Font Size – Adjust the text size using the slider.

Once you make the changes, they will apply to all text inside the current table.

Open the table in the WP Table Builder editor.

This will affect only the selected text, not the entire table.
